Local information
Local restaurants suit all tastes and pockets; there is a bar, bakery and small supermarket in pretty Sommières du Clain, 4 km away. The weekly market in Civray offers an opportunity to buy excellent fish, meats and charcuterie, a vast selection of cheeses, walnut oil, fruit, vegetables and 1940s sturdy pink elasticated corsetry, whilst enjoying the sight of local ladies gossiping and laughing with shopping baskets over their arms, while their menfolk enjoy un petit rouge or two in the corner bar.
The south Vienne is an area of winding lanes and gentle hills, dotted with ancient Romanesque churches and unspoilt villages, and a land wrapped in history - ancient stomping ground of Richard the Lionheart and Edward the Black Prince
